Oracle8i not certified for windows XP. Only 9i is certified for XP
professional. However, I've tried 9i to XP home and it work so far.

Yes and if It is a Pentium 4 do this:
1. your installation will be from your hard disk
2. so copy the Oracle cd into a temp folder
3. search and find the file *symcjit.dll* rename it to something like
symcjit.old 4. Run the setup from your temp folder

I am afraid that is being caused by the processor of your PC, not the
windows version. Correct me if I am wrong, but is your PC a Pentium 4 ?
If yes, than you are facing the well-known problem that 817 OUI does not
run on Pentium 4. Check MetaLink for patch or use OUI, supplied with 9i
software.
