Thanks for the pointer to 'asktom' - I'd forgotten about the critical fact
that writes to network shares aren't guaranteed, so it's possible (although
very unlikely) for a datafile to require media recovery from archived redo
logs in the event of a failure. Of course, this is a disaster if you don't
run in Archivelog mode!
