Don't wait for expiry to be announced and rush yourself in to take the exam. Push yourself to learn more (during the process of certification), keep a deadline, work towards it.
As in most industries, in Oracle to 10% of the featurs are used 90% of the time , and 90% of the features are used only 10% of the time by the developers / DBAs. OCP expects you to have a good grasp/wider coverage of Oracle features.
Remember , expertise comes with experience.
