Are the Oracle services started and set to start automatically?

Hi all,

I installed Oracle 8i on a 2000 server, created a database, opened the
database... all was well. I shutdown the database and powered down the
server. Now I cannot get it to open again. There has been no activity,
since I am the only one who knows it exists so far.

I can start the database from DBA studio (no mount), but cannot start it. I
get errors from SQL*Plus that will not allow me to start it from there.
Please help!! This project is due tomorrow!!!
