RE: Win2K 817 Install, svrmgrl gives ora-12560 error? Have to set instance...?

Some Dumb Questions....

Are u using the same Shell to start the SVRMGRL after setting the
ORACLLE_SID Variable.

Have you run the Oradim command to Create the Service Entries and
Started the same if you have already created it.

Check these ...

Subject: Win2K 817 Install, svrmgrl gives ora-12560 error? Have to set
instance...?

Hello all,
I"ve installed oracle 8.1.7.0 on a Win 2K box. I used
the db config. asst. to generate my database creation
scripts. I ended up having to run them manually rather
than by the .bat file...because when it tries to
connect to svrmgrl, it gets the ora-12560 error...

I have to 'set instance <sid>' in svrmgrl to get it to
work. Once I did this, I could run the create scripts
by hand...

I do set ORACLE_SID=<sid> in the dos prompt window
before I try running svrmgrl or sqlplus, but, it
doesn't seem to use it. Even in sqlplus, I have to do [Email Address Removed] or it
blows...

I've checked, and my tnsnames and listener.ora files
seem ok.

The ONLY thing I can see a little out of the ordinary,
is the service name for the listener...it is in all
lower case:

Oracleorahome817TNSLisntener, rather than having mixed
case like other services with OracleOraHome817...etc.

Can something this stupid be the problem? If so, how
can you change it? I tried to rename the key in the
registry, but, that didn't work.

Anyway, I"m not that familiar with Win/Oracle...and
could really use some pointers on these problems if
you could...

TIA,

Kelly
