Hi Pallavi,
NLS_DATE_FORMAT normaaly takes default according to NLS_TERITORY which set thru NLS_LANG & CHARACTERSET.
So pls check NLS_LANG & characterset,
eg . japanese date format YY/MM/DD
setting reqd :
Database characterset is Japanese_Japan.JA16SJIS
NLS_LANG in windows reg : Japanese_Japan.JA16SJIS
No init.ora setting reqd.
When we tried to change the init.ora file for NLS_DATE_FORMAT='DD/MM/YYYY' and restarted the db, this setting was not reflected in the database as the database took our NLS_TERITORY as the default date format and displayed the date in YY/MM/DD. ie Japanese Date Format.
So please do check ur Characterset / Teritory setting of ur NLS_LANG parameter.
Get back to me if u need for info.
Santosh

Subject: NLS_DATE_FORMAT problem.....With 9i DB
Hi,
I am facing a wierd problem with NLS_DATE_FORMAT...
I want to setup my database for a particular date format as 'MM/DD/YYYY
HH:MI:SS'.. So I made the corresponding entries in init.ora as well as SP
file for my instance... I restarted the DB after making the changes..
But when I select date from the dual I get the old date
format('29-Jun-2003') only..Why isnt the NLS_DATE_FORMAT from the init.ora
or spfile getting reflected..Is there any other place where also I have to
make these entries...??? The database version I am working on is 9i.
Please help..
Regards,
Pallavi.
