Shirish,

Check the alert.log. Most likely there is an
ORA-7445, ORA-600 or some other error around the time
when the error occurred.

A bit misleading since an ORA-3113 would be the more
common error when connectivity is lost with the
server. I suspect that the error is causing the file
handle to be closed/lost/mangled, but the process
still exists.
