My apologies for posting the query on this list. But I find a lot of DBAs on this list with expertise in Hardware/Solaris/DB/ERP issues.

I was trying a manual cold backup of the Oracle DB through Veritas Netbackup and while doing so, I got a "media write error" in Veritas activity monitor.
Here is the error that was seen on the display of the tape loader.

DRIVE ERROR

Timestamp Invalid

Serial #PXA47P5233

New Tape Alert Status

Tape Alert Flag 31

Media Identity from Storage Slot 6

I also see a "Hardware Error" in the /var/adm/messages file (in Solaris). After the error occurred, I could do a restore. Is this a slot specific error ? Any idea what could have gone wrong?
