What you are talking here is going to cost u a ton in Server Licensing
Costs..

The Middle Tier Licensing and the Database Licensing for Each Database
which runs on the Mobile Users "BOX"

We had a same kind of application which we used to synchrosize with a Plam
both ways.. What We did there was use a Access Database (!!!) it stil
worked fine.

But we needed to re-write some amount of code to read from the Access
Database and Update it..

Think on those terms.. it will solve a Lot of your problems..
