Subject: 10G file tarring problem: Solved...
Hi all,
Just a quick note about my problem I was having in
doing a simple cold back up..with a datafile that is
10G in size. This is on a solaris box....zip crashed.
The version of tar that came on the Sun box choked.
However, we installed the GNU version of tar...with
has the handy 'z' flag that gzips and tars at the same
time. Worked like a charm with the large file and all
the others....
So, if you have a problem archiving a LARGE
datafile..try the GNU tar version...doesn't have the
size limitation problem.
HTH,
Kelly
