If you can connect as SYSTEM or any other user with DBA role then do this:
Alter user SYS identified by <new_password>;

My seniors forgot the SYS password for oracle 8.1.7.4 database, Is it
possible to change the password. In oracle 9i if we forgot the SYS password
we can delete the password file & recreate it with new password, Is the
same possible for oracle 8.1.7.4?
