RE: RAC questions.

RE: RAC questions.

Caveat: I have only just started looking into RAC to decide whether or not
it will be beneficial to move towards this.

So far as I'm aware the actual requirement is "Shared storage" that means
you can use network attached storage as well as clustered storage, I don't
believe that raw is a requirement at all.

If you're determined to use raw storage I suspect you'll need to use a CFS
of some kind with multiple scsi channels, although .

I know there is the ability to run it using Red Hat and firewire attached
storage too.

Glenn.

Subject: RAC questions.

Hello,

I've been reading this and reading that. Talking to this person and that
person, and I am more confused than ever about RAC and what is required to
set it up.

If I am going to set up a RAC system on Sun boxes, do I have two options?
Either use Sun's cluster file system, or, if I don't use Sun's CFS can I
use raw devices? If I use raw devices, how do you get two systems to see
a raw device? You can't use NFS with a raw device can you?

Is the Sun CFS the only clustering system available on that platform? IE,
the Oracle CFS is only for Windows and Linux correct?

Any, clear, response might just leave me with some hair left.

thanks.
