RE: job interviews questions

RE: job interviews questions

assuming you have been doing some level of DBA work, most probably as far as tech/syntax goes, you already know whatever there is to; ie, you need not 'cram' just for this; tell them what you have been doing.

the questions that i like to ask are the types of - what are the steps you would take to recover from a crash, or to identify problems in a low-performing query/procedure, to perf-tune a DB etc. ie, you need to be able to walk me thru the path, not necessarily remember the actual syntax. after all, in a pinch you will find yourself alone at night trying to figure things out and i am sure you will find syntax books to help you, but not a 'process book', which you learn only by living it.

and some vague sounding (but carrying a lot of weight sometimes) - like how do you keep yourselves updated in the field? here i am interested in seeing your body language (whether you are trying to remember what some book said you ought to do, or you are reeling off what you actually do on a daily basis ;-)

best of luck.

Subject: job interviews questions

Hi all,

Now I believe there is a god, he just resurrected after I was shot by
the robot last night. Anyway, got an interview coming next week ... Can
anyone throw me in some of those hard questions that 'professors' and
'masters' ask their prospective DBA guru, at the moment, am actually
doing a self crash course on simulating and practicing backup recovery
and perf tuning .. :-) ..

Cheers,

EDWIN ONG UY
