RE: Synchronizing Data

Hi KM

What are other possible options to perform this task?

Replication would work as long as the DB objects are the same on both
servers. With that said, I do typically use either backup/restore or
detach/attach. I was just throwing replication out there as another
possible option.

Replication does NOT provide a "complete" database - as the original.
So you would NOT be ready to go instantly...

Backup/Restore...

Why not set up replication between the 2 servers? If you can have both
online at the same time, replicate the old server to the new server. It
will be ready to go instantly.

Subject: Synchronizing Data

Hi,

I have two SQL servers with identical environments. One is the new machine
and the other is our old box which will be disappearing soon enough.

My problem is that our customers will be using the older environment until
the developers have made all the necessary changes in their code to make the
switch to the new environment.

When they do... the data on the new machine will be several days old.
How can I synchronize the data on the new machine, with the old machine so
that the new environment is current?

Many of the tables have FK constraints so I need to account for this.
Should I write a script or use a wizard?

Any help, ideas would be great.

Thanks!

-Anthony
