RE: Problem with Copy Database Wizard

Copy database wizard is a joke, do not use it.. You will not get a
"copy", just a partially spooged DB !!

You really should use backup/restore.

Backup database MyDB to disk='\\unc\share\MyDB_FULL.bak' with init

Then

Restore.... With move... Etc.. For new disk locations, etc...

You may be OK with copying logins/etc to the new server, but for the DB,
Backup/Restore.....

Subject: Problem with Copy Database Wizard [faked-from]
Importance: Low

We have two Windows 2000 boxes with SQL Server 2000 loaded on both. We
want to migrate a database from the old system to the new system. We
have created a user on each of the systems with administrator rights to
the box and sysadmin to the SQL Server. When we try to do the migration
using the Copy Database Wizard it fails on the copying file step. It
returns a generic error stating that The copy failed. There is no
further explanation.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks
Don Bricker
