as Ken recommended, give profiler a burl, its a DBA's life saver.
Monitor IO stats via perf mon (and cpu time), then shutdown the agent
and remonitor; results? are you using sqlmail or something similar?
check all of your jobs very carefully, the sp_who command may be
skewing the actual problem you are facing.
