RE: problems sending email from sql server scheduled jobs

Bev,
I have this problem frequently. It usually means the connection to the
Exchange server was lost for whatever reason. Just go into SQL Server Agent
- Properties and click on the test button. This will reestablish the
exchange connection.

Subject: problems sending email from sql server scheduled jobs

Hi everyone,

This is definitely a network or system or exchange related problem, but I
thought I'd throw it out to the group in case someone has seen it. We are
running sql server 7 sp 2 on windows nt.

We have our sql server db maintenance plans send out an email to a generic
email address when the jobs complete. This happens on a number of our
servers.

In the last week we have been experiencing problems where the email message
on one server may not go through. The scheduled job does not complete and
just waits.

When someone gets to the server there is either a message waiting with an
okay or a Dr. Watson message. When this is answered the following message
is written to the event log

System message in event viewer:

Information Source was Foundation Agents Event 1106

Compaq Foundation Agent:
The Compaq Management Agents have detected a process exception: PID: 381 -
DESC: mapisp32
[SNMP TRAP: 11004 in CPQHOST.MIB]

Then our scheduled job sends the email and completes successfully. As if
there were no problem. Only difference is that the job usually completes in
3 minutes but in the above situation could not complete for many hours.
Until someone gets to the server and answers the pop up message.

Anyone see this kind of a problem before?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Bev.
