Hi all,
We are in the process of upgrading our production server. Currently we are running a proliant ML570 (2001 modal). With dual processors and 1.5Gb ram. 60Gb drive. The server is not under a huge amount of stress, and is coping very well (except during re-indexing). But we took over another company and they have pretty much the same database setup as us, so the workload will double in all departments.
Rather than adding bigger components, we want to upgrade now to a server which will handle the new load, as well as future growth.
I know the answer will pretty much be "well, it depends", but what type of server am I looking at to fill our needs? And is it worth looking at cheaper servers like Intel, rather than sticking with HP?
While we are upgrading now, I want to have a proper setup where I can have .ldf's on a different controller etc. And maybe even have the option to move this server into a cluster or into load balancing with other servers.
Thanks for your input!
Hugh
