Slammer questions from an eWeek reporter

Slammer questions from an eWeek reporter

Hi there SQL Server DBAs,

I'm a reporter. I'm sorry to intrude, but If you don't mind, could I ask you all a few questions about Slammer? Thanks in advance for your time!

Did the worm bring down any SQL Server installations on you? How much damage did it wreak?

Although the patch has been out for months, it wasn't particularly easy to install. Did you already have it installed? If not, why not?

Microsoft put out a Quick-Fix patch in Service Pack 3, but that was just released last week.

I’m wondering how many people had time to test out SP3? How many people had time to get it into a live installation?

For those of you who’ve installed with Quick-Fix, what are your thoughts? Was it substantially easier to install than past patches?

what kind of a testimony do you think this is to the Trustworthy Computing initiative? I mean, Microsoft took its 1,000-person SQL Server development team and devoted three months of their time last year to security, yet we still have hard-to-install patches, not to mention that the next release of SQL Server, Yukon, has been held up months because of the need to fix security problems. What's your thinking on how worthwhile Trustworthy Computing will be/has been?

thanks again

Lisa
