We have something like this.
We have an extract on server1 then a copy move to server2. then server1
starts the job on server2. Server2 then processes the file.
The last step in the job is as follows.. You'll have to set up
linked/remote server.
EXEC server2.msdb.dbo.sp_start_job @job_name = 'server2 job'
Hope this helps.

Subject: starting jobs
I have two servers one only has Analysis Manager installed as also acts
as a FTP server (server1). The other is a SQL 2000 box with out Analysis
Manager (server2). I have data being ftp'd onto server1 from server3. When
server3 has sent the last file successfully, it runs a batch file to zip
up the data. I then have a job on server2 that ftps the zip file at
specific time of the day. I have tried to amend the batch file that zip
the data to start off the job via osql, which fails as osql isn't
installed on server1.
Has any one any ideas on how I can start the job on server2?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
Stuart
