Hyra,
Add the server he is trying to connect in the client network utility in
the Sql Server 2000 client.Sql server 2000 & 7 differ in the sense that you
can have multiple instance of the Sql server 2000 running on the machine.The
client is getting confused by which port the Sql server is listening at by
default port is 1433.Please check in the Sql server 2000 logs on port the
Sql server is listening at.

To: '[Email Address Removed] connecting to sql server 2000 using asp and ado
Hi,
A developer here is having trouble connecting to an sql server 2000 database
while he can connect no problem to an sql server 7 db.
His pc is running the sql server 2000 client utilities.
He is using asp and connecting via ado
The error he receives is
* Error Type:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]SQL Server does not
exist or access denied.
/fees/TOPFRAME.ASP, line 59
I believe his connection string is something like
"DSN=SQLSysDSN;UID=sa;PWD=xxx;DATABASE=pubs;APP=ASP script"
Is anyone familiar with any further changes he will have to make to connect
to an sql server 2000 database?
Using this same pc and odbc driver he can connect to the sql server 2000
database using microsoft access.
Thanks in advance for the help.
