Thanks for the clarification Chris. Like I said, I have never used that
method - I just new that it existed. For data encrypted in the database I
have always had it done on the development side. That ensures that the
sensitive data can only be accessed through the application.

No.
There are no inbuilt obsfication or SSL, PKI etc based routines you can
use.
You can SSL the traffic between the client and servre though. Check
www.sqlsecurity.com for more information.
