Has anyone one use Image software such as Norton Ghost, etc. to image a raid
drive. I have discovered that our 10g server is running on raid 0, not raid
5 like it needs to be. *wow, please stay running for now. *fingers crossed.
I have read article after article but it seems like in each one that sending
the drive to an image is easy butting getting it back onto the raid array is
next to impossible. I'm running a Smart Array P600 if anyone has done this.
Since I'm the Network Admin, they assume I know Oracle. *um - I don't.
I would like to know how to use the Oracle backups I have in case something
with the image process does go wrong. *that wouldn't be good
Truth is, I'm a newbie to 10g, and even Oracle for that matter. I did do
some dev. work w/ 9i a few years ago and don't remember it being this
difficult to restore a db. I have a db running at an other that default
location. I have the Oracle compressed backups. I cannot get them to run on
a different Oracle server. I have setup the same OS, (patches, etc.), Oracle
10g and Update.
- I use oradim to create an instance
- I connect to the instance
- use the set dbid command
- issue a startup force nomount to start with a blank spfile
- I can restore my spfile from my compressed backup - *after this is where I
get confused
- I then try to startup using my restore spfile but it errors out stating
that some log is not valid?
I have read over the manuals and admin guide many times, searched the web. I
guess I'm just thick cause I don't get it. I should probably just go back to
coding VB.
I know this will take quite some time to answer, but I will put your answer
to good use, believe me. If I could give away ec points, you would receive
tons.
Thanks,
Dave Seybert
