Could it be that SQL Reporting Services 2005 is for the DBAs and Crystal
Reports is for the "developers"(Oh my! Phew!) and "users"(Bang! Bang!)?
hehe.

What we have encountered where I work is that as different apps that use
Crystal install their own copies of the dlls they often step on each
others' toes. It gets pretty frustrating from a support perspective.
Otherwise, I love creating reports using Crystal.

I'm unfamiliar with RS (something I hope to correct soon).
But I can say that Crystal is a fine product. I've created many reports
with the tool from simple to complex. For example, I just finished
adding barcode information to our time sheets and found it easy to
report from a "star" ERD structure. Also, from what I've been reading,
There's a way to incorporate Crystal seamlessly into the C# apps I'm
currently writing.

The only thing I don't like is that Crystal seems to get "confused" when
too many (how much is too many?) tables are linked together. But that's
easily remedied by creating views or building "staging" tables.

Here it is,
Crystal is a lot easier to create and deploy the reports. Reports server
right now is like crystal reports was 6 years ago at 5.0 Remember
crystal also has its own web service for serving reports and better
security. Even though I am partial to Report write because of the
integration to net environment I think it has a long ways to go to be
just a useful.

My company is considering implementing either Reporting Services 2005 or
Crystal Reports for our report generation, so I've been comparing them
the past week. Does anyone have experience with these that can comment
on which one is a better choice, in terms of performance, ease of use
(for both report designer and end-user), and value? I am leaning
towards RS, because I like using SQL queries as datasets, but I also
like some features of Crystal better, like the report server itself, and
the price.

Any comments?
