I know at Golden Nugget and MGM where I used to work, you were subject
to termination if you installed such without the permission of the DB
group. Of course, they have all those phasers from the Star Trek
conventions. ;-)
Seriously, it's a tough question. I don't want to go back to the old
Draconian days where IT ruled with an iron fist over its domain. But
leaving a creative doorway in your systems requires lots of Admin work,
and occasional sleepless nights.
I would vote for middle ground- ok for outsiders to have, under your
control for sanity's sake, with instant death orders if you scr** things
up.
After all, customers, vendors, and developers are people too!
