RE: Help in SQL 2k installation

Anthony,

To completely remove SQL Server and its databases, you must delete the
following:
a. C:\programs Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools
b. C:\programs Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL

SQL registry:
a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
b. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSDTC

The registry information is based on NT 4.0 and may differ a bit, but the
folder names, MSSQLServer and MSDTC should be the same. You can do Search
and delete them.

I suggest you export all the registry information before you modify the
registry just in case.

If I remember it correctly, there seems to be another application, a SQL
manager application kept me from deleting one directory. You need to kill
the process in Task Manager and delete the directory.

Reboot your server and do reinstall. Hope this works.

Thank you,

Sang

Have you gone into services in the control panel, and tried to start it
there?
Are you looking for the client tools or the 'SQL server service Manager'?
Try installing the client tools and see if you can see the db from there...

installation

Hi Guru's:
I had installed personal edition of SQL 2k on Win 2k
box. The installation went fine BUT there is no link
to SQL in my START->PROGRAMS menu of windows.
If i try to uninstall it from 'ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM'
then it wont let me do either giving the error message
that 'certain log file is corrupted and uninstall will
abort'.
i try to issue 'net start mssqlserver' command but it
wont run either .

is there any way out of this?
Thank you for taking your time to read the email
