is numeric(13) suppose to be numeric(13,2)?

I have a table ABC

i want to add column detl_main numeric (13)


when i give the command

alter table abc add detl_main numeric (13)


when i see the design table it shows

detl_main numeric length 9 precision 13

how do i make length as 13

Pls help me out
