Re: URGENT: Linked Server

Re: URGENT: Linked Server

Tracy,

I tried to link a 2005 server to 2000 server from EM 2000 and it didn't
work. However, in Server Management Studio (SMS) 2005 I could link to
the 2000 server from 2005 server. I would think you should be able to
do the same with SQL 7. In other words, connect to 2005 server in SMS
then attempt to create link to your SQL 7 server.

Hello,

I am trying to create a linked server from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server
2005. I
am doing it through Enterprise Manager by right clicking to create a
new
linked server. Server type is SQL Server and I am using 'they will be
mapped
to' and the remote servers sa login info.

After I put in the information and login/password, I get the message '
An
error occurred while retrieving the OLE DB provider properties, are you
sure
you want to save the Linked Server Settings?'

I click Yes, to go by and then it says [SQL-DMO] Unable to connect to
the
specified server. Check the server name, login name and password. Would
you
like to continue to create the linked server? I know that I am using
all the
correct login and connection info.

If I click Yes to go by this, it creates it, but if you click on tables
under
the Server named in Linked Servers a box pops up and says Error 4:
Connection
Broken.

Can you create linked servers between SQL Server 7 and 2005? Is there
something else I need to set up?
