RE: Can't connect to SQL-Server 2000 using the Server Name

Are the DNS/WINS settings correct on the machine that can only connect via IP address? i.e. Can you ping the server from that machine via name? If not make sure DNS settings are correct or add an entry to the HOSTS file for the server.

Subject: Can't connect to SQL-Server 2000 using the Server Name

I am trying to connect to a stand alone SQL-Server 2000 box running Win2k3
with a DSN - - - - on one of my client pcs I can only connect with the
server IP address and not with the server name. I installed Enterprise
Manager for this developer and same thing here...only using IP address, I
have many other clients who can connect with the server name - - - - has
anyone had this problem?

I have configured the Network lib to listen on TCP/IP and tried Named
Pipes - - - neither will work on this box - - - any suggestions?

Thanks.
