I have this problem often on a new install of EM and the way I fix it is to
create an Alias for the SQL Server using SQL Server Client Network Utility.
1. I set the Network Libraries to TCP/IP.
2. The Server Alias is set to the SQL Server name.
3. And, the Server Name is set to the IP Address of the SQL Server.
This works for me everytime.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Can't connect to SQL-Server 2000 using the Server Name
I am trying to connect to a stand alone SQL-Server 2000 box running Win2k3
with a DSN - - - - on one of my client pcs I can only connect with the
server IP address and not with the server name. I installed Enterprise
Manager for this developer and same thing here...only using IP address, I
have many other clients who can connect with the server name - - - - has
anyone had this problem?
I have configured the Network lib to listen on TCP/IP and tried Named
Pipes - - - neither will work on this box - - - any suggestions?
Thanks.
