Although it displays last modified date ,It is the last time the "data file" or "log file" has been modified physically ,not when the actual data has been modified.
If there are inserts, updates or deletes it happens with in the data or log files which may not result in physical growth of file. The files are grown (if automatic growth option is set) when database engine does not find any space inside the file to complete an Data modification operation.

Subject: MDF & LDF files dates
Hi All,
I need clarification with regard to Data and Log files. The dates
for these MDFs and LDFs is not getting change by the day, though these
databases are used round the clock by the application, the dates of the
MDFs and LDFs does seem to change. Is that how it is supposed to be or do
they need to change? I have checked with other server locally, the dates of
the files keep changing by the day.
Please Help me
Thank you very much in advance
Manoj kumar
