we use 10.42.0.1 through 10.42.0.xxx
42 from the hitchhikers guide, of course.
mask is 255.255.255.0
we have used 10.0.0.1 etc
if you are using crossovers you can drop the mask back to 255.255.255.178
or something like that
make sure that the nic is configured to use only tcp.
no client for ms networks, load balancing etc.
you want it CLEAN of overhead.
make sure that:
in the cluster admin that the heartbeat has network priority.
all nics for the hb are the same brand and rev.
speed 100 mb
We have start implementing 2 private networks
one called heartbeat and the other private.
both of these are configured for INTERNAL traffic
the production is for external
No mixed networks.

What do you see in your cluster administrator for the QUORUM drive? Are
all the nodes listed in possible owners?
What is the ip for your hearbeats? You cannot use 10.0.0.1 and
10.0.0.2, it freaks out...try 192 addresses instead

Hi,
I was unable to fail my active node to my passive node last night on my
sql 2000 cluster that is running Windows 2003. It would indicate that
the online was pending, but then would just go back to online with the
original active node.
My network admin said the log files indicated that the passive node
could not see the quorum drive.
Has anyone had any experience with a situtation like this and can offer
any suggestions?
