RE: Source Control that can Compare and Deploy

Corey,

Another tool to look at for source control is Perforce
(www.perforce.com). This tracks code changes and could indirectly
track changes to db schema.

Does anyone know if Visual Studio Team Edition does this? VSS
integration (that I've seen) has been sorely lacking on the database
end. Project control is fantastic though!

My previous employer kind of sort of used a CA product, I forget what
it
was called. It would do all those things including automating the
deployment, but it was horrible, awful completely nightmarish. A
company
with a few million to put behind a proper deployment and some really
smart analysts might end up with something worth having. Our company
had
neither. I get hives just thinking about it.

No responses... I take it everyone is about as nonplussed about their
source control as we are! Ha-ha.

Does anyone have a source management system that can do these two
things?

1. Compare DDL in a database with the source repository.
2. Deploy a proc, function or view to a database from the
source tool.

We're going to buy a new code management system (and maybe an extra
tool
to interact with the database) for all of our DB and application code.

Alternatively,
Is anyone out there really happy with their source code management
solution? Why?
