I would definitely upgrade the client cuz of MDAC compatibility issues. Also, connecting a SQL2000 cilent to SQL 7.0 works just fine.

I just want to confirm, that if I upgrade my server from version 7 to 2000,
I would need to upgrade all client computers that connect to the server to
the latest client tools, ie putting sql personal edition on them or just
client tools from the sql cd
