RE: Cluster

RE: Cluster

It's all semantics. The default "Cluster Group" is active on only one
node of a 2-node cluster at any time. Typically, at least one
additional 'application group' resides on a cluster. For illustration,
call that application group 'Group A'. If your normal practice is to
have the "Cluster Group" and 'Group A' both online on one node of the
cluster, and the other node idle and ready as a failover host, you have
an ACTIVE/PASSIVE configuration.

However, you can host multiple "groups" or virtual servers on a cluster.
If your designed configuration would include having 'Group A' online on
Node 1, and 'Group B' online on Node 2, your configuration is
ACTIVE/ACTIVE.

Hi, Liz,

In windows there is only active/passive, there is no active/active
clustering. To check which node is active, open the cluster
administrator, click on the Cluster group, You can see which node is
active.
