I haven't done any testing to quantify but my experience is that it is a good thing. You will have less disk contention. The flip side is that if you have data bases on the array with the tempdb or tempdb log, etc or you have several logical arrays which use the same physical disks, etc, then your mileage may vary. A rule of thumb is different disks (and controllers if you can) for the logs, tempdb, and database. Just to confuse the issue, some of the Oracle folks opt for striping of all the drives and just put everything on the logical drive (this assumes a very high end system).
