I would appreciate if someone can help with this issue:

I have an index file called Index_file.ndf which is 177 GB in size.

because of disk space issue on the current drive. I have moved a couple of
indexes onto a different drive. This has technically freed 70 GB which I
want to release to the operating system for other files to use.

But each time a run dbcc shrinkfile with the file id for index_file.ndf.

it takes ages and it doesn't change anything Index_file is still 177GB.

Is there any thing else I could do to free this 70GB for other file to use.
