To add with Terry's comment below...

Auto shrinking and growing will definitely affect performance on your system. When the database tries to expand at some stage within the day it will hold some locks on the database thus slowing performance and same with shrinking. But, there are workaround on this topic if you want this badly on your system.

Be wary of auto shrink and the overhead involved with auto shrink and auto grow.

You'll also want to make sure that on the Database Properties, Options tab, you select the Auto Shrink option. When your database is in Simple Recovery mode, the Auto Shrink references the Transaction Log.
