RE: Retrieve Lost SA password

RE: Retrieve Lost SA password

Yes, if you want to hack it. You can retrieve the encrypted password
from the sysxlogins table from the master database. Then, there are
documents on the algorithm used to encrypt/decrypt the hash.

However, it is easier to move the master database to another
installation as a database with a different name--make sure it is the
same version, edition, and service pack and QFE level--set the password
on that sysxlogins to null, then detach and replace the database on the
original server. You should now be able to access the system and reset
the password.

Is it possible to retrieve a lost SA password on a SQL 2000 Server?
