RE: MS Sql DBA - best book/course

Strictly Administration or Database Design and the Relational Theory too?

For Administration, there's nothing better than Inside Microsoft SQL Server by Kalen Delany. Brian Knight's new book, SQL Server 2000 for Experienced DBAs is also pretty good.

For Design and Theory, obviously Codd's original works are at the top; however, both Date's Introduction to Database Systems and Pascal's Practical Issues in Database Management are required as well.

Sincerely,

Anthony Thomas, MCDBA, MCSA

Subject: MS Sql DBA - best book/course

Hi,

What would you guys reckon is the best book or course to take by an administrator. I've been administrating our server for a while now, but tackle issues as I get them. I did study for 3 years while at varsity, but it wasn't DBA specific material, more I.T. in general. Now that I've been DBA for a while, I would like to specialize more into the field.

Thanks for your feedback.
Hugh
