write caching disk controllers offer good performance improvements but must
guarantee transaction security of writes otherwise you will get corrupt
databases. Ensure that the disk controller has been designed for the
environment which usually means it has a battery backup on board to preserve
data if there is a sudden loss of power. Also ensure that if you implement
this to check the life of the battery's and ensure they are replaced when
need be.

Can someone explain to me why we shouldn't use a write-caching disk
controller with our SQL Server? I was just reviewing some SQL 7.0
documentation and it includes a CAUTION against write-cashing disk
controllers. Any information you have, would be appreciated.
