RE: tempdb growth

RE: tempdb growth

Meg,

I generally let my tempdb grow when it needs to. It seems that in my situation that 15 gig is a good size since it is rare for Tempdb to grow any larger. If it grows a little I just let it be. But I had an incident last week where tempdb grew to 50 gig. Then I shrank it back down to 15 and will let it be. You just need to find the "right" size for your server and users. You don't want Tempdb constantly growing cuz that takes system resources.

Subject: tempdb growth

Hi Guru's

I have a job set up to run every night to monitor file growth on all
database files and transaction log files. This morning I had an email
saying that my tempdb datafile has grown overnight. I understand that
datafile growth affects performance. If it was one of my own db's i would
increase the size but since it is a system db I dont know whether or not I
should. What would you recommend?

Thanks!!
Meg
